Liturgical Ministries

Acolytes (Altar Servers)

Hello from the Acolyte Ministry!

Our mission is to lead/teach altar servers and help serve masses. So far we only have 6 members, but hopefully that will change in the years to come.

We try to meet up at least once a month with times that are best for everyone. We usually go to a restaurant like Lumpy’s or Denny’s, but we’re always open to new places to meet up. We would LOVE to have you join us. Its super easy!

Please contact Lisa Hart at 925-421-3085.

Arts and Environment

This ministry focuses on the inner beauty of the Church. Volunteers are responsible for decorating the Church for the various liturgical seasons with banners, flowers, etc.

This ministry is most active during the Christmas and Easter Seasons. To volunteer email Tammy Vo (tammyhairtrends@gmail.com) or call the parish office at 925-432-6404.

Lectors

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” This is our role as Lectors, proclaiming God’s divine words. Answer God’s call and share your gifts by joining us for faith and worship and participate fully in the liturgical life of the parish.

We provide training to give you the tool to effectively communicate the divine message. To volunteer, please contact May Plata 925-473-0835.

Extra Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Mission
To serve God’s holy people by enhancing the Eucharistic liturgy through assisting the gathering community during that moment in the liturgy in which they are fed with the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Eucharist Ministry Members
Ministers are trained before they are commissioned and assisted by long time ministers at each mass. Ministers are scheduled to serve mass on a rotational basis every two months with each minister serving an average of three to four times in a two month period.

Membership
Members of the community who are fully initiated in the Catholic Church and authorized by the pastor in the parish can be commissioned to serve in the parish.

 Responsibility
• Act as hosts and servants at the mass.
• Assist at mass when scheduled.
• Find a replacement for yourself when unable to serve.
• Purify vessels afterward and set-up for the following mass.
• Attend all meetings and training sessions.

Training
Each minister is given a handbook describing details of the ministry. Periodic meetings are held to discuss the roles and update procedures of Extra Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.

Guidelines for Extra Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
The primary qualification for Extra Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion is that they are interested in, care about, and at ease with other people, without regard for status in the community for distinctions of class, sex, age or race. All who gather at the table of the Lord do so as brothers and sisters in the Lord. Contact Bill or Ann Abitz at 925-432-3995 for more information.

Liturgical Ministries: Sacristans

Welcome to the Sacristan Ministry! We hope you find this to be a very rewarding and meaningful ministry and enjoy making our liturgies go as smoothly as possible for our fellow parishioners.

As Sacristan, we have three main roles:
• Security (of the sacristy and most importantly, the Eucharist), Mass Set Up and Clean Up, and Mass Coordinator.
You will serve all three roles each time you are a Sacristan, though some of the roles may play a bigger part than others,
depending on the mass.

• Security: We are responsible for assuring proper treatment of the Holy Species, namely that of the Sacred Blood and Blessed Sacrament during and after the celebration. We are also responsible for keeping the Holy Tabernacle secure.
• Mass set up and clean up vary slightly depending on the individual mass and presider. At every mass, you are responsible for setting up for both Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Eucharist which means preparing all the books, vessels, offertory, and incense when appropriate.
• As mass coordinator, a sacristan also assists the presider with whatever details/duties he needs done. The sacristan will check to make sure the altar servers are ready and in place as well as making sure the assigned Readers and key Extraordinary Ministers are present and ready to serve.

Assignments
We need sacristans at all of our weekend masses and especially at our daily Masses. You primarily work at the mass of your choice, but we ask that all sacristans help cover masses when there is a need, especially on Feast Days, Holidays, Sacraments, and sometimes when other sacristans can’t cover their normal mass.

Commitment
Generally, the time commitment is a half hour before and a half hour after your mass. That may vary depending on the particular mass you serve and how fast you work.

Requirements
 • Be a registered parishioner
• Be approved by the pastor and Lead Sacristan
• 16 years or older
• Wish to serve God
